The Future IS Worth Fighting For

This time tomorrow evening, I’ll be sitting in a darkened theater with a couple other hundred Minnesota bloggers catching an advance screening of Joss Whedon’s new film, Serenity.

Didn’t think that this day would EVER get here. It’s been a long time coming….

Hoo ahhh.

A hardy hat-tip to the Browncoats who were responsible for not letting this story die. What a wonderful thing democracy is – where fans of a show (along with its producer/writer, cast and crew) have the power and passion to will a movie into production.

The future is worth fighting for.

Indeed.

Stay out of the pool!!

I didn’t play in the office football pool on-line this year, despite the peer pressure.

Best. decision. ever.

This is the first season in YEARS where the performance of the frequently hapless Minnesota Vikings hasn’t ruined my Sunday afternoon.

Surprisingly, I was sort of pulling for the New Orleans Saints – since LA has had its share of more than enough bad news for a year (heck, let’s try several decades). Truth be told, however, the Vikings don’t deserve to win… despite the tremendous amount of talent on their team and the thankful trade of Randy Moss, they STILL continue to play like a bunch of individuals instead of as a t-e-a-m. Until they play like a team – where everyone supports each other – they will continue to struggle to win games.

Today’s game?

Better than the last two – still not all that entertaining. Have had it on the television in the background and must honestly admit that I’m not paying much attention. Don’t want to jinx them, but with only 1:08 left and a 33 to 16 lead, it looks like this could be the first victory of the season.

Getting back to the office pool – if this were last year, I’d be surfing the net looking for updates on ALL of the games, checking the “scorecard” for the winners on the pool… Despite consistently finishing in the Top 10 week after week, I only managed to win a single weekly pool. Hmm, eerily similar in retrospect of the Vikings performance year after year. Only wish that they’d win the BIG ONE just once. Heck, at this point, I’d just like to see them GET TO THE SUPERBOWL again! (Then, again, they’d probably just end up chocking and making me bitter all over again…)

Definitely like the fact that the tension of past years isn’t here. I’ve got my Sundays back – and the stress associated to picking the winners and losers is gone.

Yep.

Best. decision. ever.

Looking Forward to Serenity

Joss Whedon, the Oscar® – and Emmy – nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE, ANGEL and FIREFLY, now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, Serenity.

The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family –squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.

Can. not. wait.

This is the only film I can honestly say that I’ve been looking forward to seeing in years.
